The Criminal Investigation
Division's main purpose is to investigate Narcotic Crimes, Property
Crimes, Domestic Violence and Sex Crimes.
Captain Jeremy Magri is Commander over the Criminal Investigation Division. The Narcotics Division is comprised of
Supervisor Detective Michael Odom and Detective Thomas Clark. Detective Constance Myers works Domestic Violence and Sex
Crimes founded in part by a grant for Domestic Violence and Crimes
Against Women. Property Crimes is comprised of Detective Blaine
Heath, Detective Ray Rickoll, and Detective James Jones. The Felony
File Coordinator is Shannon Hingle.
The
Criminal Investigations Division (CID) has also put into effect
Operation Blue Line, which was founded by Chief Luke. The police
department
initiated this Operation to stop the flow of Narcotics into the City of Picayune. Chief Luke had blue lines painted at all
main entrances to the City and roadblocks are
periodically set up at these locations in order to catch offenders
who were coming into the city. By doing this, the Narcotics Division has
confiscated illegal drugs, money, handguns, vehicles, and even
fugitives. The Narcotics Division is showing that they mean business
by letting everyone know "Drugs are not tolerated in the City
of Picayune".
The
Property Crimes Unit investigates burglaries and financial crimes.
These detectives strive to assist the victims of burglaries and
thefts to recover their property and to make sure that the thieves
receive the justice that they deserve. This past year property
crimes have been on the rise. However, most cases have been solved
within the first 24 to 48 hours of occurrence. They are working
closely with Assistant District Attorney Manya Creel Bryan, who is
assigned to handling cases for our department in the prosecution of
all cases within the City of Picayune.
Those
who are involved in Domestic Violence, whether they are adults or
children, are being held accountable for their actions. Detective
Constance Myers assists the victims of domestic violence and assault
by routinely speaking with the victims and making sure they are safe
and aware of all assistance available to them. She also makes sure
all cases as well as cases against children and women are presented
to the Grand Jury. Detective Myers along with the other
investigators
within the Criminal Investigation Division have been working hard to
crack down on Child Predators and Child Molesters.
Each
year in May, the Picayune Police Department, as well as Departments
across the nation, commemorate the Fallen Men and Women of Law
Enforcement. This year each investigator was awarded a certificate
and medal from The American Police Hall of Fame for outstanding work
performed on individual cases worked.
The
city of Picayune is continuously growing. To keep up with the growth
and the crimes that coexist with the growth, the investigators
continuously have to attend classes and training. Most of the
classes are taught at the Regional Counter-drug Training Academy (RCTA).
Some classes are one week long. Other classes are two weeks long.
When the investigators return from the classes or training, they
share with the other investigators and officers what was learned in
an attempt to
keep ahead of the criminal activity. The Criminal Investigations Division has a
new location. They are now located at 203 Goodyear Blvd. on the
third floor of the old City Hall.
