Traffic Safety is a primary concern for the Picayune Police Department. The daytime population swells to about 36,000 people going to and coming from work and shopping. Traffic issues are further compounded by several civic and organizational events held through out the year. That's where the Traffic Divison comes in

The Traffic Division is commanded by Lieutenant Chad Dorn and his assistant, Sergeant Trent Boyd.

The Traffic Unit currently consists of Four Harley Davison Road King police motorcycles. The Traffic Division handles traffic crashes, funeral and parade escorts, dignitary escorts as well as other traffic control issues.

The goal and objectives of the Picayune Police Department's Traffic Unit are to reduce the number and severity of traffic crashes in our city. This is done by Assessment, Education, and Enforcement. Some methods used to accomplish this goal are:

bullet

High visibility and strict enforcement of traffic violations in area where crashes occur frequently or there is a pattern such as speeding.

bullet

Conducting DUI and Safety Checkpoints and Saturation Patrol.

bullet

Conducting public education for traffic safety purposes.

bullet

Making recommendations concerning specific problem areas to State and City Road Departments concerning issues such as signs, stoplights, and obstructions of visions.

If you have any traffic concerns or complaints contact Lt. Chad Dorn at 601-798-7411 or by email at cdorntraffic@bellsouth.net
